Normally I do a stand-up speech, but it has been suggested that I circulate a short statement because 50% of the people [at the Reunion] cannot follow what is being said.
Sometimes we have a volunteer who uses sign language to communicate with the audience, but we also need a loop system. At present we are applying for a grant from the Birkdale Trust for Hearing Impaired Ltd (formed from the sale of the old school) to purchase a loop system of our own. Unfortunately, the Trustee’s meeting is scheduled for mid-October so if granted, we would have a loop system up and running for our next venue in 2014.
I am pleased to announce Tony Wright has come back on the Committee with Susan Tinsley. Both joined recently and have helped a great deal. We would welcome any new Committee members.
Jack Henderson will not be [at this year’s Reunion] as he is in Westcliffe Manor, a nursing home on Westcliffe Road, suffering from the early stages of dementia.
It is a possibility, pending if questions are raised, I may have to say a few words. Meanwhile, enjoy your evening.
