Birkdale Reunion Association.

We hald a meeting last Friday 11/03/2016.

Tony Wright handed over the newly printed tickets to Steven Brayshaw and myself,Ron Gilbody. You will find ordering details elsewhere on this website, including the ordering details from myself as well as Steven Brayshaw.

Since the meeting I have added a PayPal payment option after receiving further comments from expupils who no longer use cheques and the difficulty of paying for tickets without a cheque book. If you choose to use my PayPal please add £1 to the ticket price to pay for the envelope and stamp so that I can post to you. Tickets have already been purchased on the PayPal since it was set up so it works!

The subject of menu was discussed. This will be have its final tweaking at the May Meeting and we can gaurantee a really good buffet! The timing of serving of the buffet was discussed. At the last reunion it was served at 8pm, that was not what we had wanted and it was too early. We have ensured the buffet will be served at 9pm.

Regarding hotels, the nearest is the Dukes Folley which is, if i recall correctly, next door to the Masonic Hall. it is bound to be a popular choice due to its close proximity. I know for a fact that at least two rooms have already been booked there. If you wish to book there it can be done on Booking.com or alternatively the hotels phone number is 01704 533355. There is also the Travelodge on Lord St.

Regards Ron Gilbody

Hello everyone.

Im writing to ask if anyone went to the meeting regarding the School`s future which took place on the 18th of August. A public enquiry/meeting was taking place that day (see letter in the Guestbook section from a Granville road resident)

I sometimes look up on the Southport visiter paper to see if there is any news but no sign of progress? Tony do you have any updates at all?

Tony Monday, 28 September 2015 17:21
I went to support Mr Nash when he made a statement on behalf of the Lancaster Road/Granville Road residents. The inquiry actually lasted a few days but I didn't attend all of them; witnesses were cross-examined on different aspects to do with the land and buildings. The result of the inquiry may not be known for some time as there was a lot of evidence to go through. I will contact Mr Nash to see if he has any news.

Further to my above comment, the Inspectorate have now rejected the developer's appeal. See the News page for more info.

Hi reading report on latest proposal for redevelopment at former school. This company is just trying to con people out, firstly school should be rebuilt to it former state as per Grade 2 listed building due to it history being a tank factory and bullet making factory during the war and then after the war was turned into one of the best deaf schools in uk .

now this company want to built houses on one of the best playing fields in Southport then it would put southport off the map !! Due to Waterlogging hence the school area was called Terance Nova .

Houses already on site has been flooded during heavy rainfall as the rain ran down steep drive way to the bottom of the embankment where the houses are .will be a big eye sore if houses are built on the playing field(how many ?)
who are the houses for ?
