Ron forgot to mention he is happy to receive any advice or opinions of TalkbyText by email to his address opposite.
Alternatively, people are encouraged to discuss this technology on our forums as both Mike & Ron have done.

Hello David what a nice surprise for someone who's Dad was our history teacher and current affairs which I enjoyed. Your Dad was a good teacher and always looks forward to listening to him especially in current affairs. Send him my regards.

Wow! Mr Birkby, I remember both of you, father and son, David.
Your Dad created my interest in reading Hitory, so much so, that my nieces and nephews came to me for answers when swotting for history exams. My niece Dawn, Julie's daughter completed a history degree at Lancaster University last year. However, by then she had to seek her own answers being far more avanced than I.
She has now taken on a job as a classroom assistant whilst waiting to go to teachers training college to become a teacher.
You now know the impact your Dad had on the whole family he taught both Julie and I.
I can still hear the story he read on Ernest Shackleton of the Antarctic as though read it yesterday. This was to become my boyhood hero and lead me to reading more History.
I have never met anyone since that could read a story like your Dad and completely capture his audience and probably never will.
My regards to Mr Birkby and all his family.

Hi Mike
The family recently forced him to get a computer and I showed him where this site is yesterday, he had not seen it before. If you saw him November you will know he is well, but very ill a few years ago. He has grandchildren and a great grandson to keep him on the move now! I will make him reply if it kills me! Watch this space......

Hello David, Your dad taught us history and R.E. during my time at Birkdale.not keen on the R.E. but the history was good stuff, your dad had a knack of making it come alive and smack you in the face. I met him for the first time in about thirty years in November 08 and was suprised how well he and Mr Fyldes looked. Some teachers I can't remember what they looked like..but the ones who affected your life like Mr H,Mr F and your dad, get stuck in your mind and you use them to guide you through lifes problems. Say hello and ta for me.

Lovely site, thanks. It has brought back memories from too long ago!(1963 onwards) My father is Brian Birkby and I spent many a Sunday in the swimming pool, played for hours in the play ground and learned to ride a motor bike on the playing field! I can still remember it growing with the gym and junior schools being added, Dad's class room was one of the old ones along side the driveway as you came in. I even remember painting the zebra crossing.
