Hello! I hope everyone is doing okay?
Ive been over to Southport this weekend for a little break!
I always go to the School hoping to see lots of changes and developments taking place, but alas no sign of better times to come. It pains me to see the continued demise of the site and I still have that gut feeling the building will end up being flattened (im sure the owners whoever they are will want this to be the outcome? Has covid played a part in this to the developers advantage?) The local council should have done something about it years ago?
Does anyone else feeling strongly about this situation?
Let`s have a debate?
Regards
Stephen Granger

I worked at Birkdale in 1986 as a house mother on boys floor. I worked with Mark Tandy and we got married in 1988.

Hello. I have just found Marion Dunne on Facebook and waiting for a reply. I didn't remember her and Steve's surname before the 1st hostel at Waterloo Road has closed in 1998. I used to stay at Waterloo Road during the weekends til it has closed in 1998. I have joined Birkdale School in 1997.

I was sad that Mr Martin had to resign at the begining of 2000 due to his heath. He got better nearer the time of Birkdale Schoo has closed.

I would to hear from any ex-pupils n ex-staff who knows me. I have joined BIrkdale School in September 1997 til July 2000 I went to Southport College BFEDS til it closed down.

Hello everybody, just to let you all know how I am.

Doing well at the Giles Shirley hall, hope to get back to work as soon as possible, because of the lockdown.

Looking forward to the next reunion, whenever that is, I want to say hello to my old class mates and teachers

Well good afternoon everyone. Whilst I have some time on my hands due to the current situation here in the UK, I thought I would write a message to you all.

Firstly, I attended the school from 1974 - 1979. My sincere apologies to you all, for not staying in touch with most of my class mates etc. Once I left school I remained in Southport for a short while then I grew wings and started to travel.

I never looked back, I remained In the travel industry for 36yrs before retiring.
During this time I got married to a young lady called Sara who had finished her degree to become a teacher of mainstream school, Sara has gone up the ladder has been a headteacher for sometime now.

As for me well I have been too busy hopping from one place to another. To say the least I had enjoyed my work but the time had to come too slow down a bit because I was getting older anyway.

I returned to Southport for the funeral of Mr J Henderson back in 2015. It was lovely seeing some of my former classmates paying their respects. Since then I have had two heart attacks and a string of other medical issues hehehe. Never mind one has to soldier on.

It would be nice to hear from any other pupils who attended the school during my tenure. Anyway, must go here’s wishing you all the best and keep safe during these unprecedented times.

Kind regards
Peter

Hello! I am pleased to see that the developers have finally made a start on the School site!

Is there anyone who lives nearby able to take photos of progress and update the Birkdale website as to how things are shaping up?

Most of us live too far away to have a peep round, and having to isolate!
